Important article by Kiri Kankhwende in the Independent – please take a moment to read. She outlines how Isabella (and countless others) are facing racist government policies – their lives, families and homes torn apart in the process.
No amount is too small in the struggle to keep a family together.

A steady stream of donations have been coming in, no doubt thanks to this article by Ian Dunt. Dunt clearly argues why it is important to contribute to Isabella Acevedo’s Legal Defence Fund:
“shows that we believe that immigrants, documented and undocumented, are real flesh and blood human beings. They are not objects or problems.
They are entitled to legal defence, regardless of circumstances. They are entitled to something more than year upon year of washing rich men’s toilets, ironing rich men’s clothes, cleaning rich men’s bed sheets. They are entitled to something more than constantly having their papers checked, being summarily dismissed, reported to the authorities, written off as “an illegal” and, in all likelihood, detained and forcibly deported.”
For weekly accounts – click the TRANSPARENCY page, which is updated on Monday afternoons.
Thank you for your contributions!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | 10 FEB 2014
LEGAL DEFENCE FUND LAUNCHED VIA SOCIAL MEDIA TO
SUPPORT ISABELLA ACEVEDO
On Sunday evening just a day after Immigration minister Mark Harper fell on his own sword social media provided a platform for a number of individuals and groups to come together to launch a Legal Defense Fund for Isabella Acevedo.
“Little to no thought has been given to well being and welfare of Ms Isabella Acevedo and her family. We collectively extend our solidarity, emotional and financial support to Isabella Acevedo – the latest unnecessarily casualty of Mark Harper and Theresa May’s violent politically motivated policies ” Said Trenton Oldfield.
Deepa Naik said “As one family that has been wrongly forced into the violence of indefensible immigration tribunals we immediately wanted to extend both financial and emotional support to Ms Acevedo and her family”.
The lack of concern shown to Ms Acevedo and her family to date is very concerning. Overnight Ms Acevedo has lost her income, is likely being hunted by the media, and the government will probably wish to criminalise her as an ‘illegal immigrant’. This campaign stands with her and others in similar circumstances.
The campaign sets out to raise a minimum of £10,000 for her Legal Defense Fund. We encourage individuals and organisations to be as generous as they can be.
